Komodo vs. Lubo & Kaba Horo

Lubo and Kaba Horo are well known for their caffeinated mix of energetic, wild Balkan Gypsy songs that blend urban funk, rock, and jazz grooves with rousing Eastern European and Middle Eastern melodies. Komodo is a musician and DJ who specialises in playing fast dub basslines on the Australian didgeridoo, as well as producing heavy beats and bass, and playing an assortment of other instruments such as Turkish flute, frame drum and Chinese percussion. His live performances involve playing a variety of these instruments in quick succession, while making the dancefloor shake to his latest DJ tracks.

On Friday, November 27th, both musicians (Lubo with his band, Komodo with his arsenal of instruments and digital tools), will each tell his side of the musical story, but unlike any other night, they are also going to do something very special on this night, by literally combining forces on stage to tell a third story. They are calling this colliding of musical worlds "Balkan Gypsy Dub Rave", but no matter what you call it, it has world premiere, party-groove, and dancefloor action written all over it!

1. SUKH KNIGHT, the 19 year old dubstep prodigy from east London. A blazing DJ and producer, and our special international guest for this edition of Komodo Dubs. Check out his killer tracks on his myspace here.

2. KARL HAZE, a cornerstone of eastern Canada's jungle / drum&bass / breakbeat scene, he is a flawless badman on the decks, as well as a top notch producer (Counterweight), with releases on such labels as Shift Music, Function Records and Underground Soundz.

3. KOMODO, who always has a few surprises up his sleeve, will be featuring his new collaboration with DJG, which recently premiered on Mary Anne Hobbs' show on BBC Radio1.

4. SHARIVARI will be bringing the latest cuts in UK Funky and dubstep, while

DJ INYOURFACE's - set will feature all brand new original tunes *and* a live vocalist -- sick!! Gotta be there early for this one, do not sleep!

5. DJ HOSTA, the dark, crazy and self-loathing half of Komodo Dubs, knows that if you are still reading this, you will be dancing to some sick tunes on his set, braap!

The return of the incredibly popular MUTEK collaboration with Piknic Electronik! Here, the two organizations join forces for the first of two outdoor showcases, MUTEK//PIKNIC 1, a world-class line-up of dubstep and new bass on Saturday at 2 pm at Parc Jean Drapeau. The afternoon begins with a live performance by Montreal’s Komodo, one of this city’s up-and-coming dubstep producers. Dutch producer-of-the-moment Martyn drops in for a sun-drenched dubstep set, before handing the stage over to a set from the ambassadors of the genre, the white-hot duo of Kode 9 & Space Ape. The critically acclaimed Warp signee Flying Lotus, eager to take the bass friction even lower, will make the sun set to a throbbing low end.
